April 2, 2018

Local 161-710 of the Metropolitan Washington, DC Federation of Musicians announces the beginning of the 2018 application period for our annual scholarship program and the Potter Violins Instrument award.  The application period for both awards begins on April 2nd and ends May 18th of this year. These programs are open to children residing in the Greater Metro DC area and the counties under the local’s territorial jurisdiction.

As many as four $750 scholarships will be given to qualified students, age 8 -18, studying orchestra/band instruments, in need of financial assistance to pay for private lessons. These awards may also be used to help defray tuition costs for summer studies at any music camp.

Potter Violins continues their tradition of offering a violin, viola or cello to an aspiring string player, up to age 16, judged not only on their musical abilities but also their financial needs.  Union affiliation is not a requirement for applicants or their private teachers for either award.  However, the applicant must reside in the jurisdiction of the local, as listed below.

You will find the link for the application and required materials by clicking below.  The entire packet, including all required materials, must be postmarked with the date of the end of the application period.  Feel free to email me with questions regarding these programs.
